About the Artist........

A talented, award-winning artist, Judy Quest resides in Punta Gorda, Florida with her husband Jack, where she pursues her love of art. Her inspiration, derived from within herself as well as the world around her, can be seen in her work with oil, pastels and watercolors. Striving to emote strong feelings, Judy blends layers of color, adding subtle textures and details to create a sense of mood and drama. Her paintings are truly distinctive and memorable.

Pursuing her love of art, Judy divides her time between Punta Gorda, Florida, and Bolton Landing on Lakes George, New York, where she lives with her husband, Jack, and her cockatiel, Kiwi.

Judy's inspiration, deriving from within herself, as well the world around her, can be seen in her work with oil, pastel, and watercolor. Striving to create a memorable painting that has a strong emotional impact, she blends layers of color, adding subtle texture and detail. It is her attention to detail, as well as her use of form, shape, and light, that captures the moment, creating a sense of mood and drama, making her paintings distinctive.

Retiring from teaching in the year 2000, Judy pursued her passion for art full-time. Having received her early training form Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, she continues her professional growth by participating in workshops with well-known artists whose work she admires. She believes enhancement and progression of her artistic skills continually evolve from her inner creative self and "listening to her canvas" as she paints.

Her very earliest inspiration came from her grandmother, Minna Anthony Common, a well-known artist and naturalist, who created many beautiful paintings of wildlife and other local scenes from the Thousand Islands area. The Wesley Island Nature Center in northern New York State was named after her. As a young girl, Judy spent many hours with her grandmother studying and sketching birds and plant life. Further inspiration and early training was received from her Aunt, Catherine Johnson, a well-known, award-winning watercolorist, also in Northern New York State. Many hours were spent painting with her in her studio in Henderson Harbor, New York.

Judy's work can be viewed at Sea Grape Gallery and the Visual Art Center in Punta Gorda, Florida, and Trees in Bolton Landing, New York.

"I consider my talent a wonderful gift, and try to create paintings of uniqueness and beauty, using simple striking images, touched by a sense of mystery."
